Internal Wall Drying

Once a property has been subjected to the flood of water through the roof, a burst pipe, an overflowed bath, septic overflow or a natural disaster, you can be sure that any walls within the flooded area will have dampness not only on the outside, but more importantly, on the inside. The level of dampness will only be determined by how severe the flood was. But you can be certain that the internals of the walls will be damp inside.

Looking at the majority of residences and commercial buildings throughout Australia we know that most internal walls are made of Gyprock. We also know that unless they are in a designated wet spot such as bathroom and laundry that most internal walls will not be Blueboard or some other waterproof drywall composite. As such, as soon as even low levels of water comes in contact the wall boards will absorb the moisture like a sponge!

Drywall or Gyprock walls left to dry on their own means a very long and slow evaporation process. So slow that the wallboards will weaken and become soft and even flimsy at best even with low amounts of water. In situations that have suffered a substantial exposure to water, the wallboards will eventually just fall to bits. And for the others that are not so bad, the time will come when something bangs lightly against them and now you have an instant hole in your wall.

But taking all the above into consideration, the news is not all that bad and the problems can be easily avoided at very little cost in most cases. If you have been unfortunate to suffer some flooding and if you address the internal wall cavities at the time of the flood water remediation, the problems and situations noted above will not arise.

We can attend to that for you on the day. Water Damage Sunshine Coast have systems that in most instances, can dry the inner wall cavities without having to rip all the drywall off. We can leave your premises with true dry walls inside and out and you will never have to suffer the long wait for that that lingering damp smell to disappear.

We say:
  • Dry your walls regardless of composite
  • Play specific attention to internal wall cavities
  • Water damaged walls will fail
  • Wet walls will create internal mould spores
